In 2023 Record rain, severe hailstorms and even a tornado damaged roofs across Littleton and Highlands Ranch.
Not only did Littleton and south Denver see multiple hail storms the summer of 2023 but on June 21st concert goers to Red Rocks Amphitheater were caught unexpectedly by a powerful storm of epic proportions. Not only did the storm rain out the concert but it pummeled concert goers with hail so large that several people were seriously injured!
Halfway through the year, Denver has already received nearly all of its annual precipitation! The concert-wrecking storm was the beginning of a more destructive pattern that would emerge where strong summer storms that would bring damage to roofs and homeowners in Littleton, Highlands Ranch and south Denver making 2023 a year not to be forgotten.
The EF1 Tornado in Highlands Ranch
In the last ten years, more than 500 tornadoes have been reported in the state which has brought the average to 60 per year. The vast majority of Colorado’s tornadoes occur during May, June, and July. But having a tornado touch down in Highlands Ranch is very uncommon and not ever wanted!
June 22, 2023 an EF1 Tornado touched down in Highlands Ranch causing damage which ran for about 6 miles. With that storm came large hail – in some places it rained down tennis ball sized hailstones. The tornado touched down just south of CO-470 in Highlands Ranch and lifted just west of I-25 near Lone Tree in Douglas county. Tornado track was from 2 miles west of Highlands Ranch to 2 miles north northeast of Surrey Ridge with a path length of 8.36 miles. Roofs in Littleton and Highlands Ranch got clobbered by hail that day!

The National Weather Service said that an EF-1 tornado touched down in Highlands Ranch at around 3:30 p.m. on June 22, 2023.
As we roll into the first week of August more rain and hailstorms are likely on way for Littleton and Highlands Ranch.
